Today, in celebration of the governor's inauguration, museums in Nashville were open with free admission, so we decided to take a trip and go see the current Impressionist exhibit. It was lovlier than I had imagined. I never was too enthusiastic about the Impressionist Movement even when I took art history classes but something about this selection of paintings was pretty amazing. I am still not convinced that I enjoy every technique produced during the movement, but several of the painters are really amazing. This particular artist's Spring is easily one of my new favorites... and i rarely really get into a piece of art. I am usually couped up in a photographer's world. In some ways, that has shaped which artists I like and which ones I don't like as much- paintings that feel like photographs seem to be my favorite. While I love Romanticism and ideas produced by deeper meaning pieces, I appreciate Realism to a higher degree when it narrows to art.
I love the light to dark variation, the shadows, the double rainbow, the soft texture. Seeing it up close was just about profound.
